According to EU‐OPS, flight crew have to complete training in Volcanic Ash 

Operation before they commence flying and also as recurrent training 

This course is divided into 3 sections: 

1. Introduction 
2. Flight Planning 
3. Flight Procedures 

Topics covered

• Volcanoes are nothing new
• The ash cloud 
• VAACs (Volcanic Ash Advisory Centers)
• Operation at an airport with volcanic ash exposure 

Update 

This course is updated after any major change in the regulations,  

or if a significant incident or accident occurs under the scope of this subject. 

Initial/recurrent training 

This course can be used for both initial and recurrent/conversion training.
